![]() The test bottle I used for this review was my husbands and YEARS old, yet it had not dried out and still worked fine. Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks Value for MoneyĮxcellent. The black has stayed stable under and over acrylic paint, water colour paint, watercolour pencil (that has been washed out), and Watercolour crayon (again lettering applied after pigment has been washed out to activate it).Glass bottles are square section at the base making them easy to store and easy to get hold of.Range of 26 colours available, including Black, white, gold and silver which are useful for many subjects. If you wash the ink off immediately you can clean nibs in just water.Inks contain water soluble dies in shellac solution, this makes them durable. This just left Sarpie permanent marker which works but you don’t always want thick nibs! On holiday I bought a dip pen so decided to give drawing inks a try, as you can get a variety of nib styles for these pens so it would give a lot of versatility if it could survive acrylic paint. Sharpies from the USA work great, especially the white one but are not easy to get in the uk. I have permanant ink drawing pens such as Faber Castel but unless you write before any colour or gesso goes on the page I was afraid the pen would die. Lately I have come back to art journalling, one of the things that put me off before was that most pens died as soon as you tried to write over acrylic paint. RRP at time of writing: £3.50 each or sets of 8 at £24.99.When buying, be careful not to mix up with the Liquid Indian Ink because the packaging and design of the bottle look rather similar.Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks Product Details The bottle is only 14ml which is half the size when compared to most other ink bottles. The ink flow is nice, it's dark, dries fast but unfortunately it feathers a bit on the edges so use it with caution. When dry, it's waterproof and resistant to erasing. The major downside to the ink is it does feather a tiny bit at the edges. The ink flow is good and it dries extremely fast to a rather even wash. Winsor & Newton does state that this black ink is permanent to light. Note that the other coloured inks are dye-based and hence not lightfast. It's difficult to find information on whether this ink is pigmented, but I suppose so. They can be applied with a brush, dip pen or airbrush. The ink comes in a small 14ml square base glass bottle. Let's just focus on the Black Indian Ink. The Liquid Indian Ink is the water based solution of traditional Chinese stick ink, in short very much like sumi ink. The Black Indian Ink is part of the Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks series which features a total 26 colours. Winsor & Newton produces two black inks: Black Indian Ink and Liquid Indian Ink. ![]()
