![]() The utility directions come up as (ActiveX?) HTML and once the command is made correctly it is all done pretty quickly but is it really worth the trouble and risk? The quad processor is 95 watts, very capable. So a trip there to invoke the utility weeds out the pikers pretty quick, especially since the expansions inconveniently scatter the command object outside the command directory. exe's, realize what HP calls “DOS” is merely the command line. Not really necessary to play with a BIOS upgrade BUT if you check there is a network PHY firmware sp56990 and a BIOS config utility sp57256. After activation I apply updates with WSUS offline (no antivirus at this point) and maybe the 64-bit driver is lacking for the included USB keyboard. The cases were a little scratched and dented. Drive cloning must be prior to activation, I also put in a DVD writer and ditch the DVD-ROM. The trick is finding a small SATA power splitter, pretty cramped in there. I prefer separate system/applications and data drives (Harvard memory architecture idea) if possible, because that darn system is always breaking. I'm adding double-stacked 2.5 inch adapter brackets, then I can 'fast' boot the system on a cloned SSD, with perhaps a 500GB or a 1TB data drive. You may get a bad memory stick, but wouldn't you prefer four 2GB sticks or two 4GB to max out the full 8GB board limit for 64-bit? Nice that the system is not activated because 160GB is only enough room to get by – for a while until the bloating and gas happens. The CMOS coin cell batteries as shipped were under 2.9 volts. I'm still spotting these old but rugged business grade machines in service at local commercial customer service desks. I consider them barebones as shipped, some assembly/building required. Overall Review: I've bought several of these, I prefer the pre-2009 side of the UEFI/BIOS boundary. You get a PC thrown for a few dollars more than what the system costs.Ĭons: CMOS lithium coin cell weak. Not activated, so the hard drive furniture can be rearranged slightly before pulling the trigger. ![]()
